Ambleside
Ambleside is a resort town set on Lake Windermere in
Cumbria. It is located at the centre of the Lake District National Park and is well-placed for exploring the inspiring countryside that surrounds the town.

Ambleside is situated in Langdale Valley which is popular amongst walkers, who come to explore the fells and high passes on foot - the walk to
Stock-Ghyll Force Waterfall is particularly memorable and is about 1 mile to the east. Guides can be hired in the town and rope and tackle rented from the Climbing Shop - the surrounded hills Loughrigg Fell, Red Screes and Fairfield provide quite a challenge to mountaineering enthusiasts.
Bridge house, a 16th century stone house is Ambleside's most notable historical building and is owned by the National Trust. Purchased by local people and given to the trust, it is now used as an information centre and is set on the river Stock Ghyll. It forms part of the Windermere and Troutbeck land owned by the National Trust, found near Lake Windermere.

Boat excursions on
Lake Windermere are available at
Waterhead Pier, which is located to the south - some trips run the entire length of the lake. More details about visitor attractions can be found below, including information about top restaurants, pubs as well as supermarkets and shops found in and around the town.
