Lot
Lot Cottages are located in Southern France. Lot is one of the 83 départements formulated during the French Revolution - it enjoys some fine weather due to its location, and despite its setting in the popular South, remains relatively undiscovered. Lot visitor attractions
Cottages holiday makers will enjoy this beautiful region in one of the most tranquil and unspoiled areas in France. The river plains and rolling hills, vineyards and forests provide endless opportunities for enjoyment in a delightfully warm climate in which the summer weather often lasts into November.
Outdoor activities
Hiking and cycling are particularly enjoyable activities in the region. The hills are gentle, the scenery is stunning and there are miles of back-roads and paths from which you can explore the countryside.
Canoeing in the Dordogne River is a popular activity. Canoes are relatively cheap to hire and are quite suitable for children.
There are several hire outlets along the river bank which also provide life jackets and even special containers for taking along a picnic. Canoe Dordogne is based at

Food and drink
Lot has some fantastic places to enjoy good food. Regional specialities include foie gras, duck breast and rib of beef. La Vigue Haute in
Castelfranc, a medieval village on the banks of a river is a great place for an informal meal. All the ingredients used are local and fresh and there is a pretty garden where you can sit outside to eat.

Le Grindreau Restaurant St Medard is said to be one of the finest in France, serving exquisite food and wine – a great place for a special celebration. History and Culture
Les Grottes de Lastournelle near Pujois features 7 interlocking caves while the Caves Domme are the largest in the region. There is a troglodyte fort made up of cliff dwellings forty feet up at La Roche Gageac on the DordogneRiver. The Lot Valley is redolent of its past with its ancient castles and medieval villages. Proumeyssac are spectacular – the main feature is the huge cathedral cave of crystal. You can enter in the traditional way – in a basket lowered by a horse.
Gavaudun Castle is in a stunning location in the Gavendan Valley – built in the 12th century as a defence against enemy troops. The
Chateau de Monbazillac is listed as a 16th century historical monument and has a cave where you can sample the local wine.
