Perthshire is a region of heavily wooded hills and dramatic mountainous beauty. The moorlands and vales are also host to a rich variety of wildlife.
Perth
There are many attractions for the visitor in Perthshire including the majestic gardens at Drummond Castle, the Perth Theatre and Wade's Bridge. The picturesque town of Aberfeldy offers a pleasant diversion as does the historical Castle Menzies nearby. Its also worth visiting the woodland gardens of Cluny House.


One will find a large selection of monuments to times past that include remains of Roman settlements, the Pictish Stones and a host of medieval castles, including the island Castle of Loch Levan. The Scone Palace, where Robert the Bruce was crowned is a real treat.

Drummond Castle
Glen Lyon, Scotland's longest glen offers some wonderful scenery as does Loch Tay, the largest in Perthshire. The picturesque village of Kenmore sits on the Loch and provides some great views. Outdoor Activities
Perth has been described as the Adventure Capital of Scotland. The area is perfect for outdoor pursuits of all kinds: fishing, walking, trekking, cycling. And naturally, there are a number of golf courses to suit all levels of ability. For clay pigeon shooting, 4x4 off road driving, mountain biking and archery, book in at Dunkfeld Park. It also has a 9 hole putting course, and offers croquet and pentanque.


Activ8s Adventures
at Aberfeldy offer canoeing and river rafting and at Beyond Adventure, you can enjoy rock climbing, river running and white water rafting. Fot the adventurous, Scottish Aeroclub at Kinross can arrange micro-light flights and excursions.


Scone ArmsFood and drink
You will find a wide range of places to eat and drink in Perthshire and can choose from fine restaurants, old-fashioned tearooms, friendly pubs and cafes and lively bistros. You will need to book to eat at Cairn Lodge in Auchterarder, where you will be offers the finest of Scottish cuisine and an extensive wine list.


For traditional pub food, where families are made welcome, try the Village Inn at Dunblane or eat at the Scone Arms, just a few miles from Perth City Centre for Scottish traditional fare. St Fillans, situated on Loch Earn has spectacular views and is renowned for its wholesome food and The Old Armoury Restaurant at Pitlochry offers a wide selection of dishes, including lamb, beef and game, using local produce whenever possible.


Castle MenziesHistory and Culture
Perthshire has a collection of historic buildings and sites. There's evidence of the Stone and Iron Ages as well as Roman forts, the most interesting being The Iron Age site at Crannog on Loch Tay and the Ardoth Roman Camp near Auchterarder. Castle Menzies at Aberfeldy, where Bonny Prince Charlie stayed after the Battle of Culloden is worth a visit. Open April - October daily 10.30 - 5.00 Sunday 2.00 - 5.00


The Queen Mother’s birthplace and childhood home, beautiful Glamis Castle, mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth is open daily from March - October 10.00 - 6.00 and November and December 10.30 - 4.30. Haunted Huntingtower Castle is where Mary Queen of Scots spent her honeymoon with Darnley. Open all year. Wheelchair access and parking available. Picnic grounds and shop. Closes at 6p.m. in summer and 5.pm in winter.


At magnificent Scone Palace you can see the Stone of Destiny, the coronation site of Scottish Kings. Open April - October from 9.30 - 5.00 and in winter on Fridays only between 10.00 and 6.00.
